kulturweit promotes the competences of its alumni and provides three options for further training to former volunteers.

Seminar structure

During the four-day seminar, the participants receive a first glance into the structure of the seminar and the associated group work. It examines the questions of what to look for upfront when planning a seminar, how the group procedures are received and how important it is to do all this in an discrimination-sensitive work environment.

The significance and effect of the power dimension in society with regard to preparing seminars characterise the approach for the basic seminar. Prerequisitions to participate are the general interest in seminar work as well as previous experience in the field of educational work (JuleiCa, at least three semesters of a relevant study in the field, or previous experience in mentoring youth groups and youth camps). The annual seminar takes place in Berlin or on Lake Werbellin.

Education for Sustainable Development

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is one of the main focuses of UNESCO. In a context of numerous interconnected global challenges, a sustainable development on social, ecological and economic level is of major importance. Education is an important strategy for the promotion of this development. The further education deals with such topics about sustainable development. Participants will act as ESD disseminators after the completion of their further education.

Social, ecological and economic aspects for sustainable development and its correlations are the key contents of the further education. The topics are looked at in its entirety, and from an interdisciplinary, differentiated and multi-perspective point of view. The learning methods enable cooperation, participation and self-organisation. Activity oriented materials and methods with a high level of application are generally preferred. The learning environment is interactive and inclusive and orients itself on sustainability.

With further education the ESD team members acquire the competences necessary to provide knowledge and skills, critical examination and understanding of global correlations, as well as to promote sustainable actions. The opportunities offered for a further education are a result of cooperation between kulturweit and the Alumni Association kulturweiter.

Two to three year long further education to become a teamer for education and sustainable development

world hertiage

kulturweit together with the special World Heritage division of the German Commission for UNESCO offer involved alumni the opportunity to have a closer look into the heritage of mankind. The further education develops a general understanding for world heritage, discusses sustainability questions and allows young people to get involved for this matter.

During an approximately two year long educational training the participants will visit three World Heritage sites within the first year and deal on site with the design of their respective management plans, opportunities and challenges to gain the World Heritage title with respect to the local population and their own perception. At the same time the group will realise a project in order to convey their knowledge to other target groups.

In the second year the focus will be on the mediation of their own knowledge. The team members will supervise the World Heritage further education seminars, practice planning and designing seminar concepts and reinforce their knowledge with respect to the World Heritage sector, project management and creation of group procedures.

After completing the further education and now being an World Heritage teamer, participants will have the competences necessary to convey the World Heritage matter to external target groups and other kulturweit alumni, and to continue to critically examine the topic.
