Deutsche Welle Akademie

The DW Akademie is Germany’s leading organisation for international media development.

The Deutsche Welle (DW) is a foreign German broadcasting station of the Federal Republic of Germany. As part of the station, the DW Akademie supports the development of free and transparent media systems, journalistic quality and media literacy across the world. Around 200 media experts have been advocating this for more than 50 years. Following conflicts or crises the DW Akademie assists with the re-establishment of the media and contributes on international level to the professional training of media representatives.

The DW Akademie is the foreign German broadcasting station’s centre of excellence for education and communication of knowledge, and thus trains young and talented journalists to work for the station. In addition, the academy is offering a broad spectrum of media training. Educational programmes to learn German language skills add to the journalistic options offered by Deutsche Welle.

Tasks for volunteers

Volunteers acquire practical insights into journalistic and technical work processes during their work at media partners of Deutsche Welle in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

kulturweit volunteers carry out research work depending on the requirements of the respective assignment location and their personal qualification and previous education, or prepare contributions for the radio and online articles. They assist with the organisation and execution of workshops, take on tasks in public relations, overlook the social media offers by the media and carry out administrative tasks.
